`Floating'-  Work in Progress Pictures

Here are a few extra photo of the garments taken as they were completed.  Hopefully the instructions you receive with the Floating pattern are understandable - any problems, please address them on the Contemporary Chic List - Link at base of this page which shall be to everyone's benefit  - howeverif you are uncomfortable with this please don't hesitate to contact me directly !

Here is the bodice of the Handkerchief Gown. As you can see I embroidered the Coral onto the chiffon first then placed my pattern accordingly - you can however replace the embroidery with beading or just leave it plain. Below you can see the beading that I did around the neckline and at the shoulders - grouping and suspending shell sequins from beaded tassels.

This is the gold lame Cummerbund - it shouldn't lie flat because the darts shape and mould it into her waistline

Detail of the non-functioning purse made from card, sequins, beads and a short piece of chain

Picture above shows the beaded points of each hanky skirt - the photo to left shows the two skirts and how they are layed over one-another

The two pictures below are of the Chiffon cropped top, each made in exactly the same way - however one has a gold lurex fabric base the other is from blue crepe-de-chine.

To the left is the Chiffon Layered skirt showing the two uppermost cross over layers and bead detail. Tassels can be ommitted but I found they added weight to the fabric and it `draped' better at this scale. Use chiffon for this outfit - steer clear of crystal voiles or voile in general as they are too stiff at this scale, unless of course it's made of silk!

To the right is the rectangular Chiffon Poncho - very easy to make - just take time to bead the edges as it drapes much better when beaded - I hate repeating this but it's true - if you want to achieve the same effect as I did on the garments in the photographs.

Shown below is the bottom of the lame trousers with their chiffon ruffles - of course you can omit these ruffles if you think they are a bit OTT but I thought they were fun and in keeping with the `fishy' theme.

Below shows detail of Velvet Ribbon belt which I beaded after it was in place and dangly shells I added for fun!

Here we have the back of the Parka Jacket which was made entirely (and lined) with Ice blue crepe-de-chine. I embroidered the fish first before cutting the back out positioning it so it would lie just above the casing but below the armhole shaping

You can also see the casing which is top-stitched in gold thread, which runs across the lower hip line. I've probably over beaded this garment but that's my failing - I extended wee round sequins up from the fishes mouth to emulate bubbles going up and over left side of hood.

Here is detail of the front of the jacket showing the gold top-stitching again, a very effective enhancement of the seams with very little effort just by choosing a gold or contrasting thread in your needle.

You can also see the mock button detail up the left front - there are hook and eye (hand-worked)  fasteners to inside of jthe jacket  fronts .

It also shows the beading which was just strands of four or five crystal beads sewn in a zig-zag fashion to imitate a branching Coral, with gold beads at the tips as a contrast.

Full frontal view of jacket - you can see the sleeve casings, and the ribbon ties which were beaded at each end with a cluster of gold and crystal beads.

This jacket could be made up in a variety of Satins too - a khaki green for the Military look - make it up in navy and white and sew shop bought Nautical (anchor; ship's wheel etc...) embroidery motifs on the back for her to go sailing in - endless possibilities!!
