`Jasmin' - Work in Progress Pictures

Here are a few extra photo of the garments taken as they were completed.  Hopefully the instructions you receive with the Jasmin pattern are understandable - any problems, please address them on the Contemporary Chic List - Link at base of this page which shall be to everyone's benefit  - however if you are uncomfortable with this please don't hesitate to contact me directly !

Here is the Loose print crepe coat which I lined with the pale blue sateen. It seems very narrow at the bottom when you see the fronts overlapping like this but it creates a neat fit around her thighs just above the skirt ruffles. I top-stitched around the entire coat edge which stabilised the lining to the print crepe fabric as I did not want to use too hot an iron to steam press on either fabric.

In the picture below you can see how I picked out the colours of the print with small crystals stuck on with fabric glue

Here is the dress showing the cross over detail of the large gathered shoulder `straps', and below can be seen the two ruffles at the base of the dress

Cover top-stitching with co-ordinating trim or ribbon. I've machine stitched a small hem on each - the more masochistic sewer can hand roll the edges!

Here is the printed crepe skirt and below the shorter version made in the lime satin which proved to have no `weight' as it wouldn't hold the bias drape - therefore choose a fine fabric for this style but one which drapes easily and preferably in natural fibres as synthetics - with the exception of maybe viscoses - wont drape well in this scale.

To help the skirt hold it's shape it could be steam pressed whilst lying on the flat or whilst on the doll with short bursts of steam held over the folds. Or you could bead the hem or add weight to each point by using a heavier bead or beaded design

The above two pictures show the longer knit jacket and the shorter midriff jacket. The knit jacket is unlined, but you could line it if you wished by following the shorter jacket instructions. There are no fastenings on the knit jacket, however there are two mock fastenings on the midriff jacket giving a more tailored appearance altogether

Here is the halter bra with it's curved neck strap which fits snugly around the dolls shoulders and neck. Note the two different pleats used at center front of the halter bra and the palazzo pant bodice, even although the same pattern piece is used for both garments .

On the halter bra the pleats are on the vertical center front edge - which is sewn together to join the two halves; on the palazzo pantsuit bodice however the pleat is on the horizontal edge - the edge which is sewn onto the palazzo pant body/legs section.

The palazzo pant jumpsuit showing the side vents on the legs - I intentionally did not press a center front and back seam on each leg, in fact I steamed the pressed edge out which creates a more fluid look to the suit, as a severe edge if not centered exactly can effect the hang of the cloth

Here is the organza hat and purse which really finishes this outfit showing the beading detail at the centre of each flower. It's important to pick out the main colours in your print or plain fabric when choosing your beads - don't make do - wait until you have the right selection- it will make a difference !!

Back of organza purse showing leaves sandwiched in-between layers

Details of the embroidered straw picture hats and bags. Note the variety of widths of ribbon and toning shades used for the silk ribbon `lazy-daisy' embroidery - also see the tiny stab stitches on the inside of the lining which both holds the lining to the straw brim and can be tightened and pulled to shape your hat.

Detail below of straw `bucket' bag using the finer of the two straw hats. This was much easier to work with and didn't fray apart as much as the lighter mint straw used

Detail of the back of each bag  showing the glued join, also the painted card base which covers the straw `under-wraps' and braid trim used to hide the raw edges. You can also see the differerance in the weaves of each straw hat used
