Paris was waking to the usual, early morning sound of car sirens of the `Garde Mobile' . Maybe the Gestapo had found another hiding place, and had sent their lap dogs to investigate?! Sadly, Yvette pondered her mission, and thought of the city she had once known. There were many unwelcome changes since the Sitzkrieg, the mobilisation of Paris. Gone were the famous Art Nouveau street signs, replaced now by those in the Germanic style. Instead of the familiar Tricolor at the Arc de Triumphe, there now hung the menacing black, white and crimson flag of Nazi Germany. From where she stood on the tree lined Avenue she could see a velo-taxi approaching, and she raised her hand for him to stop. The wizened faced man brought the bicycle-rickshaw to a standstill to enable her to get into the seat. He could tell by the way she dressed that she could afford to pay the ridiculously high fare, set by his oppressors. Yvette adjusted her hat as a gust of wind caught the silk blooms, thinking only of her task ahead.
